Social Sciences

B.A. in Social Sciences

This degree enables students whose broad interest in the social sciences encompasses a range of discipines and courses not typically found within a single academic unit or program.

Working with a dedicated academic advisor, students devise a program of study which meets their academic or career goals as well as WSU degree standards. Students include coursework to satisfy all University Core Requirements (UCORE) and any additional graduation requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Plan A—Primary/Secondary Concentration

Primary concentration

A minimum of 24 semester credits, including at least 15 hours at the 300-400 level, must be completed in a single social science department or published program and with a minimum 2.00 primary concentration GPA.

Secondary concentration

A minimum of 15 semester credits, including at least six (6) hours at the 300-400 level, must be completed in different academic department, program, or area published in the catalog, with a minimum 2.00 GPA.

Social Sciences

A combination of social sciences courses totaling at least 39 hours involving three (3) academic areas with a minimum of nine (9) hours in each of the three areas. At least 21 of the 39 hours must be at the 300-400 level, and the GPA for the 39 hours must be a 2.00 minimum. Students declare the general social sciences major and receive a bachelor of arts in social sciences.

Humanities

A combination of humanities courses totaling at least 39 hours involving three (3) academic areas with a minimum of nine (9) hours in each of the three areas. At least 21 of the 39 hours must be at the 300-400 level, and the GPA for the 39 hours must be a 2.00 minimum. Students declare the general humanities major and receive a bachelor of arts in humanities.
