Choose your Plan

Both plans of study for the general studies degree require a minimum of 120 total credit hours (including electives) and successful completion of all appropriate UCORE requirements.

Meet with an academic advisor to review your academic goals and customize your degree.

Plan A

Primary/Secondary Concentration

Select biological sciences, physical sciences, or mathematics as your primary area of concentration.

  • Complete a minimum of 24 semester credits, including a minimum of 15 from 300-400-level courses, in your primary area of concentration and earn a minimum 2.00 GPA in your primary concentration coursework.

Select another academic department, program, or area published in the WSU catalog as your secondary area of concentration.

  • Complete a minimum of 15 semester credits, including a minimum of 6 from 300-400-level courses, in your secondary area of concentration and earn a minimum 2.0 GPA in each of your secondary concentration coursework.

Required courses vary by primary concentration:

Biological sciences
BIOL 106, 107 | CHEM 105, 106, 345 | MATH 140 or 171

Physical sciences
PHYSICS 201, 202 | CHEM 105, 106 | MATH 171, 172

Mathematics
MATH 171, 172, 220, 273

 

Plan B

Three Related Areas

Select a focus in either biological or physical sciences and then complete a minimum of 39 total semester credits across three related areas in that discipline.

  • Nine credits are required in each academic area, with a minimum of 21 credits from 300–400-level courses, and a minimum 2.0 GPA in each of these courses.

Biological science areas:
Biology, biochemistry, botany, genetics and cell biology, microbiology, zoology, and approved biology-based courses in agriculture.

Required courses include:
BIOL 106, 107 | CHEM 105, 106, 345 | MATH 140 or 171

Physical science areas:
Astronomy, chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, and approved courses in computer sciences and engineering.

Required courses include:
CHEM 105, 106 | MATH 171, 172 | PHYSICS 201, 202
