General Studies Customize Your Education

Earn a degree as unique as you are

The general studies degree provides personalized learning opportunities for students whose diverse interest in the sciences encompasses a mix of disciplines and courses not typically found within a single academic program.

Working with a dedicated academic advisor, students can create a custom program of study which meets their academic or career goals and fulfills WSU’s graduation requirements and standards.

Degree options

  • Physical Sciences

Plan ahead

  • Students interested in graduate or professional school are strongly advised to include a capstone project involving research and writing.
  • Students wishing to move directly into the workforce upon graduation are encouraged to add an internship and/or service-learning component.

Choose your plan of study

Variations in the general studies and the general sciences programs offer additional flexibility to customize your degree to meet your academic, personal, and professional goals.

Plan A:

Choose one primary area of concentration—biological sciences, physical sciences, or mathematics—and one secondary area of concentration from almost any other discipline offered at WSU.

Plan B:

Study three related areas within either biological sciences or physical sciences.
